About Us

Located in the Westshore, Food For Thought Catering Ltd. is a locally-owned and operated catering company. It was founded in 1988, but the current ownership is a result of an amalgamation in July 1, 2006 between Tim and Carolyn Rideout, Deanna Young, Kevin Gomes and Blues Brothers Bar Services.

At Food For Thought Catering, our approach to our business is that the client is "number one" and we tailor menus to fit each client's vision and budget. We strive towards exemplary customer service and amazing cuisine at all times, and we are proud to say that our efforts have been recognized through numerous awards, including the "Westshore Chamber Employer of the Year" in 2010 and "Outstanding Customer Service Winner and Finalist" for the years 2007 through 2012.

The Team

Below is an introduction to our management team:

Tim Rideout

Tim has hospitality running through his veins. He has been in the business for over 20 years and worked in many venues including fine restaurants and pubs. He was with the MCG group for 13 years in Southern Western Ontario opening several different venues. Tim landed on Vancouver Island in 1999 an continued his hospitality career, when he purchased Bluez Brothers Bartending and Promotions which is now Victoria's premier Liquor Catering Service. Now owner operator of Food for Thought Tim has immersed himself in the event planning business specializing in large scale events, weddings to the most intimate of gatherings.

Deanna Young

Jewelry designer, event promoter and style diva, Deanna Young uses her left brain, right brain and a whole lot in the middle in a fast-paced life filled with fashion,family,friends and good food. During college, her summer jobs where in the food & beverage biz. Instead of pursuing an intended career in education, she set about earning her stripes from server to hostess to manager at various restaurants in the Okanagan and Vancouver. In 1998, along with her husband and two boys, Deanna moved to Victoria. She was part of opening two popular restaurants and her skill and expertise at events and large-scale promotions started to mature and flourish. Deanna is now one of Victoria's acknowledged experts at multi-level event promotions. Not satisfied with just one avenue for her energies, her love of fashion combined with an artistic flair has led to a burgeoning jewelry design business. Her role at Food for Thought consists of Sales and Marketing. Deanna loves to present the clients with innovative quotes to suit their events.

Kevin Gomes

Kevin was born in Australia to Portuguese parents, his father a cray-fisherman and his mother the owner of a small café. Kevin's reverence for fresh food, and his respect for its preparation, originated as a young man working in his mother's restaurant. A keen desire to learn and experiment with world flavours started his professional culinary travels. Kevin has worked in some of the world's most well-respected restaurants in Hong Kong, Scotland, and, true to his sea heritage, the Seaborne Legend luxury cruise ship. Kevin worked as Sous Chef & Chef at some of Victoria's hottest restaurants. Gomes helped to define the food scene and put these restaurants at the top of Victoria's dining map. Today, as Head Chef for Food For Thought, a culinary catering company in Victoria, Kevin is committed to continuing to practice his personal food mantra, ensuring his food is fresh, simple and full of distinctive punchy flavours. His is a philosophy that marries well with the large clientele of this innovative and inventive catering company.

Carolyn Rideout

Carolyn, originally from Montreal, began in the hospitality industry in 1989. She managed various restaurants as well as being involved in the Canadian Cancer Agency. Carolyn made her way to the coast and managed Bluez Brothers alongside Tim with her forte being onsite manager finessing all the final details. Carolyn strives to make each event one to remember. Her attention to detail puts every clients mind at ease.
